Sorry about this!!
Been doing digiscoping for a few years but now want to come back to the 'Fold'. I have a 'thing' for Nikon/Nikkor. Was into Photography years ago, know a little but not heaps!
My ideas are:
D5100 with the 18 - 70mm lens. Then save for the 70 - 300mm (I like taking pictures of birds (the feather kind). I know I need extra reach so maybe a Sigma/tamron longer lens?

D90 going for similar/same lenses.

or going cheaper body and get the lenses now!!
Thats my dilemma.

Get D90 and the 18-70 to start off with. Maybe throw a 35mm or 50 f1.8 prime in for low light shooting. Then save up for a longer zoom lens.
 
Agree with badboy - either a D90 or even a 2nd hand D300 which is not much more.
 
Also worth considering the D200 which is cheaper but a great camera. £200-£300 secures one. A 70-300 VR is another £250-£300 used and then an 18-70 is I guess about £80. So for £530-£680 ish quid (about the price of a D5100) you could have a great set up.

Thats a good option if you decide to go for a cheap body and spend the rest on lens.

Even a gripped D200 is cheap.

I had the D90 in my mind, just needed a push!! Got my eye on one, comes with the 18 - 105mm, looks good though
