dirty sensor canon sx10is???

i've had my Canon SX10is for about a month and ive noticed a small black curl/line in the bottom right corner as you can see in the photo.
Can anyone teel me what it is. i can see it on the viewfinder but it disappears in digital zoom.
i thought it could be dust on the sensor but since the lenses are unchangeable then i struggle to see how it could be.

Any ideas

Dust and fine hairs manage to get in where you would think it impossible to get. One way they can penetrate is attaching to the zoom and gets in when the zoom retracts. The sealing around this cannot be perfect on a low priced camera (£260) but you sacrifice quality for features

Dust and hair must be one of the biggest problems to deal with in digital photography, which is why more and more camera models are introducing built in dust removal features.


Looking at the picture I would say its a fine hair on the sensor/inner lens glass, on a normal DSLR this wouldn't really be a problem, as one can remove the lens to get to blow out the offending object with a rocket blower or similar. However on your camera removing the lens looks like a no option other than to send it back for the work to be carried out,and you have to ask yourself how often is it going to happen again?

The only other alternative is to edit it out with an editing suite, but this is a chore if you have to do it to every picture.

This is only one of the reasons why I would never recommend a compact or this type of camera. The hype looks really fantastic when reading it, but in reality there are too many drawbacks in my opinion.

Jessops? So now it will have been boxed up and being sold as an "ex-demo" model.

The reason it disappeared on digital zoom (as opposed to optical zoom) is that the "zoom" is achieved by cropping the sensor. Hence the corner was cropped off. And why digital zoom gives appalling picture quality.
