Dirty sensor has what effect ?

OK I probably know the answer but need confirmation..

So I have a dirty sensor to the point of manky.. really manky :( But as 99% of my work is wide open or max f4 then it wont show up on pics...

however... missing focus a lot lately.. my 1dx is acting like a mkIII in that I have to take multipke shots to make sure the subject in focus as it jumps out... Could this be the very dirty sensor..

Just get it cleaned? I am going to.. unfortunatly I have to wait for a gap in work schedule :)

It is only a 5, 10 or 15 min job to do it yourself - (a wet clean) - it is quite simple and I do not think that you will harm anything if you follow the simple Utube vids

a lot quicker than having it done by the camera shop, who may just give it to a junior assistant to do
 
It won't be the cause of focus issues, focusing is done by a separate AF unit off sensor through the mirror.

hhm now I am worried.. sure I read somewhere that it can have an effect :( Oh well need cleaning anyways :)

cheers guys but theres no way in this world I will be cleaning them myself.... its ingrained into me from my 10d days that its a bad idea to do yourself.. let the pro... I ahve a camera shop near me who does it for around 30 quid.... OK I know I could save 30 but I feel safer :)
 
I used to think that my sensor was made out of some sort of material that if you even looked at it it would crack, then I bit the bullet and started doing it myself and that was about 50 cleans ago.
How many people on the net or threads on here even have you saw "AHHHH I tried to clean my sensor and ive wrecked it" I havent came across one yet out of the tens of thousands of people that do it themselves although Ive havent been searching for them either :-)
 
A manky sensor is unlikely to cause OVF AF problems, although it could cause live view some difficulty. Having said that, if the sensor's that grubby, chances are that other internals are equally dirty including the AF sensor and the mirrors which might well cause the AF to become unreliable. I would be very wary of cleaning the mirrors myself since they are first surface type (silvered on the visible side) so quite easy to scratch. Sounds like you've got a good tame cleaner and he/she should be able to do a decent job. Failing that, a proper service and clean should get everything back to shiPshape and Bristol fashion!

Hope you get it sorted quickly.

Thinking about it, the manufacturer MIGHT let you have a loaner to keep you in business while they do a full service. Worth a call to (?) CPS.
