So, D70, right? Battery grip, yes? Simples? No... I wanted one that has the extra shutter button if possible and yet it seems the D70 does not have this (D70s does though). Lots of looking around and I finally resign myself to this fact - get a grip, but no fancy button. That means no fancy LCD control panel for timings and so on :( Then, I see a wired remote shutter for the D70 (yes, not the S, I checked) and it states that for the D70, this plugs into the grip! So now I am having a bit of a blowout and need a definitive.

If I get a battery grip for the D70, will I be able to use the extra shutter button?

If I get a grip designed for the D70s, will it fit the D70 anyway as a simple battery grip (I may get a D70s later you see but I ask here as I have seen two designs - one looks like the D70 batter terminals, one looks like that but with lots of extra pins as well).

So I need to either get the official nikon scarypricesellthekids one or have mine modified with the jack socket? Where does one get this mod done?

PS - done the Google, that started the headaches

I've seen some 'wired' D70 grips that operate via a fibre optic cable going to the IR port. What I hear is they're rubbish. You have to operate it in 'remote mode' which means a lot of the functions are useless, no af-c etc. Pretty macgyver esque operation basically, a bit of a hack.

The D70s grips plug in via cable, but still to the remote port, so I think they're similar, not a truely compatible grip as such. Any camera with a genuine grip that can AF and that has the rolling control wheels will blow these grips away, they're a bit of a hack job.

If you want a grip for extra batteries, go for it. But from what I hear, for the usability aspect, they're pretty rubbish.

I believe there isn't an official Nikon grip. I had a D70 and s for quite a few years and didn't see any.

Nikon Grip (might not be official though, but it's the one with the optic link thing)

Hmm. So in that case, £60 for just an extra battery might be better staying in my pocket. With the other battery :D

Any dummy grips then? For the ease of use angle, so I don't get confused when going from the D1 to the D70?
