Divert Number To Mobile VOIP? Land Line?

Hi,

I want to have a local number that gets diverted to my mobile.

What is the best option / cost? I don't have a land line.

I have looked at one option but could be expensive which is http://www.voipfone.co.uk. I can pay £2 a month for a number, and get calls diverted to my mobile but it would charge me 12p a minute when someone calls. Now you can see why it could get expensive for me...

Any other solutions would be greatly appreciated. Even better if when it is diverted it doesn't charge me for the call.

Have you had a look at skype? I know they do it but dont know if cheaper

Cheers, I could not see anywhere on their website about buying local UK numbers. Do you know if they offer this service?
 
The last time I had a look they did. I think it's in services for business.
If you type skype in the search engine of this forum you will find more thread on the subject and what you looking for.
 
Skype offer a free number of your choice from certain area codes in the uk if you take out one of there call plans.
 
I use sipgate with a geographical number (area code of my choice). Doesn't have software of it's own for mobiles but most mobiles that have SIP software can use it (e.g. Nokia phones).

In the case of my Nokia, the phone just registers with the service via Wireless LAN or (at huge cost thanks to operator data fees on VoIP data) via 3G, then it's like having a second line. I can then dial via voice or net call, and incoming on the VoIP line just rings the phone like a voice call. Using a good Wireless LAN connection the quality is miles better than mobile, and call costs are tiny even to mobiles and international. Even used it in the US, calling UK at local UK rates, and my number appears like I'm in the UK.

Or I could use Skype or Fring is another service, but these use their own software (note that to receive calls you need these running at the time).

Oh, and I think sipgate and probably others offer a forwarding service to a regular mobile or landline, but you pay extra for that.

With call forwarding and other account based settings on skype you set them on the site to forward to say your mobile and they automatically forward, no need to leave skype running in those cases, or have skype running on your android/iphone and it comes through there as well :)
 
Thanks for the information. Can you get SIP software for IPHONE? Will it cost a lot for geographical number and to get calls diverted to my mobile?

Every where I see people charge me for people calling me because it is diverted to my mobile. :/

Skype no good as they don't offer my area code sadly.

The particular solution would partially depend on your existing mobile provider and whether you are in contract or not.
