Hi

Does anyone have any ideas why I often get this error when trying to connect to TP ?

It only happens on this site – all others are fine. I’m running XP and it makes no difference which browser I use – Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, it’s all the same.

It can last for a few days then be fine for a couple of weeks.

It’s baffling I tells ya

could be your ISP's DNS server is out of date, or your dns cache is..

flush your dns cache
close all browser windows

start/run TYPE CMD
in the black box TYPE ipconfig /flushdns

Restart your browser

Try disabling your AVG browser plugin...
Tools>Manage Add Ons

try using OpenDNS server settings form their website instead of your ISP ones. If that doesn't work, beg borrow or steal another router.

I had exactly the same problem last year, did everything, all to no avail. I changed IPS, mainly due to cost, but also because even my isp techs couldnt find anything wrong. On the new router, all was well. However it was a crappy router, so tried the old one, totally reset it, re-confirgured....same problem  No Idea why, never heard of it happeneing before, but it had to be a router issue, though how a router can decide it doesn't like one single website [actually there was 2, can't recall what the other one was] and everything else be fine, I have no idea.

Thanks YV. I did as you suggest but it didn't fix the problem - as the fact that I haven't been able to reply until now proves :|

Has anyone else got any ideas ? It's very frustrating

who is your isp
02 had an issue with this a while back and i had to use open dns for a while

An update....

After I had the problem, I changed from ukonline to o2, which of course meant a new router as well as a much cheaper service. However the router was rubbish! So, I had a go at using the old router [which at that point I never assumed could be the problem, not for a single website and not have been reset to factory settings and reconfigured more then once], and you know what, the new router allowed me straight on, the old one nada! Nothing, couldn't get near here even with a totally new ISP and therefore, you would assume, totally new routing out on the www. Hence my mentioning trying a different router.

However, the story now moves on. Been quite happy with o2 broadband basic until last week, when for no reason at all, I couldn't access another website and worse, this was one of my own, so no cpanel or ftp either :bonk:

I did all the usual checks of course, rebooted routers, and so on. I plugged in a t-mobile mobile broadband dongle to make sure the site was actually operational, and it was. Anyone that has tried fiddling with an o2 router will know what a pain in the ass they are, but fiddle I did for a while, with dns, resets, etc. Still nothing. So I did some googling and found o2's own support forums, and started reading. No access to a single site is a problem for them. Call CS and they haven't got a clue what to do apart from running all the usual tests and checks and escalate to a 2nd level, which is great but you never get to hear from them again. However I added my comments to those on one of threads concenring this, and knowing that their techies do run the forums, hoped for some help and advice. Went to bed, spent the following day at a wedding, came home and voila, all sorted - well, so far so good anyway, will be interesting to see if it stays that way.

Sorry for the long windedness, but my point is this, that there seems to be more and more reasons why this is happening, so investigate every avenue and do your research about known issues with your own service provider.

I would suggest the fact you can get on from time to time means its not anything blocking you at the TP end, though will point Marcel at this thread and ask him to check when he has chance mate.
