Do I have Auto Focus issues or is this normal?

Morning all, this might just be me and it's the first time I've paid much attention anyway I went out to the Quayside in Newcastle yesterday afternoon to photograph the Super Yacht that's docked there.
I was using my Nikon D5200 and Nikon 16-85, set to one point continuous auto focus.

I was on the other side of the river to where to boat was docked and when the camera was auto focusing (looking in the focus window) it wasn't focusing at infinity it was on the mark before infinity (1.5 I think) if it but my hand closer to the lens it refocused on a lower number then higher as I moved my hand further away but no matter where it what I focused on it never landed on infinity :|

Is this correct?

Yes - infinity is a long way away. And the markings on your lens barrel aren't deadly accurate.

So long as what you're shooting is in focus and you can manage to focus manually too, there's no problem.
