Do I really want/need an Arctic butterfly??

I keep seeing these coming up for sale and usually place a bid but always get outbid by someone who wants to pay some extortionate amount of money for it...

Do I really need one or is it just a want thing :shrug:

:thinking: Why are people selling them after just using them twice... Will I be in the same boat (prob will be :lol:)

So as I said - do I really want one or should I save my money an just keep using my rocket blower :shrug:

Rocket blowers had been fine except when I bought a used S5pro but I had just got some swabs from Flash which worked a treat and since giving it a good clean the rocket blower does the trick.
 
No, you don't want one.

It's probably user error but I can usually guarantee getting more marks on the sensor when I use mine. Just get some decent wet clean swabs and fluid.
 
I had one and it was worse than useless (it left bits of bristles everyhere) - in the end I took it back for a refund.

Your Rocket Blower is blowing dust inside your camera to cause trouble again. Periodic use of the Arctic Butterfly will help you remove it not just from the sensor but from the camera completely ... Simples!
 
Artic butterflies are great for light dust only but more important in my opinion is a Loupe. A Loupe at least lets you see where any dust is on a sensor and without knowing that cleaning is a bit hit or miss.

I got a rocket blower used it once on the 400D sensor, never again made the problem worse, used a AB spotless :thumbs:

Had some of those when I had a D300s.... Heaven only knows what I done with them thou :thinking:

Have seen the pro versions of the AB which included the loupe but they came at a price an half.... But was wondering about them..


Which is the best version to get as there seems to be quite a variation to them...

Seems quite a mixture of responses - Many thanks to you all, I shall keep an eye out for one esp the pro version with a loupe (if not I'll prob get that seperately)

I bought the whole kit at the Focus on Imaging show at the NEC Birmingham. As for the Loupe x7, its by Visible dust (part of the kit). Saved me loads of cash and time sending my camera away for cleaning sensor. Well worth getting in my opinion.

It is an answer but it is utterly wrong. Against dry dust there is no better cleaner as it actually removes the dust rather than simply blasting it somewhere else. A bit expensive? How expensive is your sensor?

A loupe may be handy, but far from necessary. Most cameras come with an alternative built in. I is called a lens, a plain backgrouns e.g. the sky and F13 or smaller.

Thats how I used to do it too, but that means continuously taking pictures blowing them up scanning across the page to spot the dust removing the lens cleaning the sensor putting back the lens and repeating the process maybe several times.

Oggy presumably you don't have a Loupe so arn't aware of how good it is.

To appreciate its benefits and how much easier it is that the other method. Just remove the lens- do mirror lockup - place the Loupe over the hole in the camera where the lens fits and you can so easily spot the dust and get rid of it. No need to constantly keep checking to see if its gone.
