Yes
:razz:well it still there after having the bigma for many years 4 i think. i still cant get over that i want the ef400 5.6 as a walk around lens.

things are'nt all lovley jubbly when im not in the garden studio .
but when walking about the bigma just does'nt have the resolution to crop the image to much because we all now that a grab shot is'nt set up .

ive read a lot over the years about the ef 400 and people say its sharp wide open and gets better st/dn and the sharpness on test charts shows it can handle cropped images if you can get close to a subject.

so before i go and due the wrong thing weighing up what i can sell.

BAD or GOOD idear

many thanks

would the 100-400mm not be a compromise leaving some flexibility with a faster set up time?

I have exactly the same dilema with at the mo i am with Nikon with a D60 and the Bigma. I am going to sswitch over to Canon soon and get the 50D with either the 100-400 IS of the 400mm f5.6. I think that I will the get the zoom because of IS and the flexibility of 100-400. I was also told that you can get a 1:5 ratio on the zoom, whereas on the prime it is 1:10.

Oscar.

Or get a 300 f/4 and a 1.4 TC for added compromise? With the benefit of IS but a little more expensive.

From the various threads on here recently, I think the general opinion is yes, the canon L series 100-400, 300 & 400 prime are excellent lenses.

I have the ef 400 L f5.6, very very sharp and quite light for a longish lens

5.6 is a bit limiting in low light though

I am having a similar problem on whether to sell my 100-400 for the 400 as I have heard it is a sharp lens I had the the chance to try one today and it was so light and felt a great walkabout lens the only downside is no image stabilisation

thanks peeps appreciate the input.

ive very rarely used below 400 and as ive got the very good fuji s100fs for all other subjects and the 600mm scope for the extreme range the 400L is my only option and a good one at that.

as for being slow and not having is iv not had shootable 5.6 ive always shot the bigma at f8 iso 800 handheld so to me 5.6 will warpspeed. the 70-300IS lens will be going as well and after not using it for a while ive not missed IS.
