Yes
As per title!
How many of you carry a tripod abroad?

Do you own a lightweight one that use only abroad?

that may help me to choose between 190 and 055!

Thanks

I take a jessops mini tripod with me. Not sure of the model, it fits in a suitcase when collapsed. Not one of the tiny ones.

I have the 190, choose it over the 055 as I knew I wanted to be able to fit it in my suitcase, and carry it with me on full day walks.

No complaints - it does everything I need it too!

Edit to say I have only been abroad once since I got the tripod, but I took it to Venice with me last summer, and happily carried it around for long days with me when I was there too (attached to a shoulder strap)

Thanks! How tall are you? I'm 5' 9"
As far I read the I'm too tall for the 190 and not enough for the 055!
The redsnapper would be better but has no horizontal column

Can you use the 190 with the column down?

Yes
A SLIK 770Pro in a padded Manfroto bag.

I check it in and have never had any bother. It goes on 200+ flights per year.

Edit, I strap it to my camera backpack when I'm walking around and hardly know it's there.

I am 5'10" - of course I can use it with the column down! I bend down a bit!! :p

TBH it isn't often I have it at full height anyway (I haven't raised the centre column up more than about an inch in the 12 months I have had it, though I have had it horzontal a few times) - if I am doing landscapes it is more often than not set fairly low to get FG interest in, plus as I use a remote trigger and I have the top LCD on my camera, so use that to help with the settings and cover the veiwfinder etc. I don't really look through the viewfinder beyond checking composition.

Hope that helps. though probably isn't much help if you need to use yours at eye level though!

I have the 055 and I'm leaving for Canada (from Poland) in about 6 hours or so.

It fits in a suitcase, but I did remove the centre column and the ballhead. So it's in two pieces in the bag. It's maybe not 'the perfect travel tripod', but I'm willing to lug it around. Just have to buy (or most likely make) a carry case/bag for it.

I love this tripod.

i have 2 tripods, a Manfrotto 055P and an older silver 190. Whenever I travel light on European city visits I take the 190 with me. It's been on multiple trips to Amsterdam, and more recently Berlin and Krakow. With the 488RC2 head off, it just fits in my checked luggage, and its light enough to carry hanging from my shoulder all day using the Manfrotto shoulder strap. I wouldn't travel without it.

I just took the 055 to Italy no problms, just removed the head to get it in the case and bob's your uncle.
