Do you love your tripod?

Tripod? All I know is that I've got a 3 legged hat stand that stung me around £300, and the damn thing only has space for one measly hat.
 
I used to hate my pods. I always seemed to need the biggest & most heavy one while having to hike the furthest for the best shots. Why is that :)

Then one day a young guy came and asked if he could help ... learn ... for not a lot of money .... he said he would do anything ....... "anything you say" ...... I love my tripods now :)

BTW ... he now has his own studio ..... and a young girl ... who will do anything .... hehehe

I love my present tripod - a Gitzo GT3530LSV. It's sturdy, light to carry and the twist locks are a cinch to use - it's hands down the only tripod I've ever been completely happy with, and I've had a few.

I also have a Gitzo Explorer which is lighter, more compact, very sturdy, even with heavy lenses. On the face of it, it's the ideal all round tripod, but it has the old style twist locks which tend to lock up. It would be a stretch to say I hated it, but it drives me nuts compared to the other. :nuts:

You just can't put enough time and thought into purchasing a tripod - if you really don't like it you just wont take it. :shrug:

I've got this and I hate it! Not because it isn't excellent; it is. But the problem is that it's a tripod..... hate all of them. Pain to carry, pain to set-up. Would I be without it? Never ever. Awesome kit, best money I ever spent in terms of improving the quality of my shots. A necessary evil basically.
 
I've taken ~17,000 shots this year and used a tripod...once.

Just checked back in here and I'm so chuffed to to know I'm not alone with hating the *^%£$ thing:D
Until 3 years ago when I went on a Light and Land course I didn't feel the need for one but at the risk of being the odd one out..... Things went from bad to worse as I then was persuaded to buy a more expensive head.

I never know which part of the legs to extend, in what order, how high or low, and how to get it anywhere near lining up with the subject. BY the time I've finished messing around the moment has passed.....

I have a Giotto tripod, god knows what head, it came with it; and I absolutely DESPISE using it. I only ONLY use it for long exposure shots and HDR. And even they are few and far between...
 
My Manfrotto CF tripod lives in the car, so I have it when necessary, I often strap it to the back pack when out looking for wildlife. The monopod lives there too.

I've got quite used to carrying them around now.

The alloy tripod is generally kept indoors for use doing any still life/birds/garden etc.

Ive just bought a Giottos vitruvian today. Its so small and light I hardly notice it. I havent used it in anger properly yet, but from the quick shots I did on the way home from the shop, it seems very good. Its also handy as it has a built in monopod, so one less thing to carry.
 
For me, a tripod is an essential tool if you want total sharpness among other things.

I have a aluminum Red Snapper, and as a tripod it's fine. Does what I want and is a decent height and I am around 6,4 tall. The only thing I hate is the damn weight. I've got Lowepro Flipside 300 and Vertex 200 and whatever backpack I use with tripod the weight becomes an annoyance. Not so bad at first, but if your lugging it up hills for landscape shots then it gets draining.

Not sure weather to carry it with the actual bag it came from and not put it on my backpack see if that makes a difference.

I keep meaning to look at alternatives, but too much choice out there and think may just stick with it and keep lugging it about. Going Lake District soon so that will be fun to lugg around.
 
I was convinced I need a tripod, bought a simple red snapper, used it about twice and then broke the screw thing in the middle. Maybe a ball head would change my opinion. I currently have a Gorilla Pod Focus with ball head and its great for throwing in a rucksack.
 
I love my tripod, wouldn't go back to a three way head though. It saved my arms when I had the 400mm out for birds! Wouldn't be without it!
