Do you use the 5:4 crop mode in the Nikon D3 / D3s

Not had my D3s very long and still going through the manual bit by bit.

I am now reading about the various built in crop modes and I see that one of them is 5:4 which I believe stems from years ago when they used to make images on glass plates.

I can see this been useful ff you are doing a portrait shoot for 8x10 prints as the files would fit nicely onto an A4 sheet of paper.

Just curious as to whether anyone does actually use this function in the camera.

5:4 ratio prints frames and frames are very common, but I'll just crop in LR to that ration rather then setting it in camera

I used to shoot almost all my studio work in the 5:4 format as most family groups seemed to be more suited to that ratio and I didn't want to crop in PP (or have tell the client every time, a 10x8/20x16 will have less space on the long edge).

I am now doing some more 'creative' cropping so switch between 3:2 and 5:4 depending on the shoot.
