Does anyone use a Hand Grip?

Yes
Being an avid Motorsport fan and photographer, I've been looking at ways of steadying my hand and reducing shake when I come across the leather hand grip (as pictured below).
Has anyone used one of these and do they help?

Gary

Apologies for the (c) image, it's the best I could find:

It won't stop your hand shaking!

You could save yourself a few bob and just wrap your current strap tightly round your hand TBH.

I would have thought that shooting motorsport would have required a shutter speed well in excess of any which could involve camera shake as a contributing factor to unsharp piccies - not too sure that at the speeds you will be using that this glove thingy would be very effective.

Tripod or monopod would be better.

Perhaps I was a little vague, I have a mono and tripod but find myself walking around a lot, carrying the body/lens with the strap wrapped around my hand which can be uncomfortable after a while.
The use of this, I would assume, will give a good purchase on the body and would also assist in handheld shooting, I think :)

I've got both a hand strap (not as big as the one in your pic) on the righthand side and an optech Pro strap on the left of my D300.

I use the canon version all the time (also with the Optech strap fitted) I fine it is far more comfortable to carry my camera in my hand and it is always ready.

I have a home made hand strap and find it comfortable to use even for prolonged periods.

I use a Camera Armor ToughStrap because I carry my kit around in a Billingham bag and don't like neckstraps.
I find it very good and it gives that extra bit of confidence when you're somewhere where you might lose your grip on the camera.

I love my handgrip, bought it last year and since then my neckstrap hasn`t had a look in. I find the neckstrap gets in the way when using a tripod. I hate walking around with the camera hung round my neck, much more comfortable in my hand.

Tripod or monopod would be better.

I would go for a monopod. Easier if you change your mind to panning with a longer lens. Tripods I find tend to be a bit cumbersome. Suppose some may rather go that way.

That being said, fast enough shutter speed unless panning would have no need for a support unless its a long/heavy lens.

I use hand straps on both my KM 7D & my Sony A700 (along with neckstraps also fitted).
They both have their usage.
