Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this bag?
Or does anyone have recommendations on the smallest bag I can get away with to carry my 70-200mm attached to camera, preferably with a 1.4 oncerter too, though no extra room is needed for anything else.

Yeah I bought one a few weeks back. I went with the Flipside 300 in the end (Its a small bag compared to my Pro Trekker). Its very nicely designed and fits a tripod nicely. I especially like the tall slim design as it makes moving through crowds etc much easier than with my wide load bag. I think you would (And its advertised as such) get away with the Flipside 200 for a 70-200. Although how much space you'd be left with I don't know.

One feature that is great with the bag is the ability to keep the waistband attached, then spin the bag round off your back. This gives you access to the bag and a nice platform to change lenses etc. The only negative point with this bag so far is the lack of an all weather cover.

Hope that helps. :)

I've been scouring the internet spec sheets to find a minimal bag for my 70-200f4L attached to 400D ready to shoot. I'd be putting the rest of the gear in a rucksack with day out stuff.
High on my shortlist is the Think Tank Holster 20 or Holster 30 . . . advantage is they expand if you want tc fitted or hood extended ready to shoot. I still need to get to a store with one in stock and see what the fit, the padding & build quality is like.
Lowepro do their Toploader series.

Bags with more space that'll take the 70-200 fitted include the Lowepro Specialist 85AW but its massive.

try a search on www.cambags.com by lens type!

oops sorry, can't search cambags by lens type (they link to sites selling you the lens), they only list bags by camera body

Mk, The slim design that allows for more freedom of movement is the main reason I was attracted to the Flipside too.
as I dont have very broad shoulders, I tend to feel swamped & awkward with the Trekker.
Ive read that the fabric is waterproof on the Flipside but like you, I much prefer the idea of a cover.

Wookie hadnt considered a Think Tank, Ill go check that one out too.

Thanks for the input guys. (y)

thanks MK, I know Jacobs in Leicester have them, but the problem is getting the chance to go there!

I'm selling my Flipside 200, though can't advertise here as don't have enough posts yet :D
Just wasn't big enough for the kit I really wanted to have to hand all the time. Never used the thing! Great bag, very sturdy and sits well on the back.

I took pics with my kit in the bag (for sale purposes), but haven't uploaded them yet :/

I'm wondering if the 300 may be better suited for me.

I'm very pleased with the ThinkTank Holster 20 I bought just before Easter. Very nice features, padding, etc. I was originally looking at a LowePro toploader but felt the ThinkTank was better quality (metal clips for the shoulder strap as opposed to plastic, for example). Also, I'm using it with a 400D body - the ThinkTank seemed a nicer, snugger fit compared to the LowePro.

Funnily enough, the Flipside is on the shopping list for a backpack type bag :D

thanks for the feedback on the think tank bag Estheroid, sounds good, which lens are you using the 20 with please?

Here's a pic of the Flipside 200. Camera is my old 400D attached to the 24-105mm. Left hand side is a 50mm f1.4 and below that a Canon 70-300mm IS. Finally, below the camera/lens combi is a Canon 10-22mm.
InaGlo, I should think that the whole side could fit a 400D with a 70-200 attached quite easily.

I'm using a 24-105 but that's without the 'extension' part of the bag being used. I think even so there is still a little bit of play between the end of the lens and the bottom of the bag - it certainly doesn't feel like I've had to jam the thing into the bag.

The thing I liked about the bag is that there seems to be room for expansion - ie: if I upgrade the camera to something slightly larger and obviously what they call the 'pop down' feature should I need a longer lens. It also rather splendidly fits into a dry bag (XS Ortlieb) I have should the need arise! :)
