Does breaking your toe hurt?

Got up too quickly about an hour ago and kicked my sofa. My toe was hurting but it's not bad now, although when I walk it feel amazingly odd and there's a lump on the top that wasn't there before.....
 
Yes it is very painful and will last for a number of weeks (especially if little toe).

It will probably go some dark shades too and be very painful to move if you wiggle it with your fingers.
 
when i had mine broken they didnt hurt much, depends where/how badly theyre broken i think
 
You're obviously suffering from alcohol deficiency, a few pints of Scrutocks old Dirigible & you'll feel fine :)
 
In my experience, any bone hurts for a long time when broken, also once you have felt a broken bone once you always know if you suffer a break again, a wierd sort of painful feeling!
 
Broke my hand once. When I broke it it wasn't too bad, but an hour later I knew I had to go to casualty as the pain got steadily worse. It took me all my time to drive home from the footy first though as changing gear was difficult.:lol:

When I was first going out with Yv, she phoned late one night as she was driving home up the motorway. I woke up and jumped up to answer the phone and kicked a table.

I looked down and was quite interested that my little toe was at right angles to the rest of my foot .... then after a few seconds it started to hurt!!

But it's not the end of the world and anyway the medical services won't normally do anything to reset it.

Automatic car was useful though! [And crutches for sympathy ;) ]
 
Depends how much "hurt" you expect. I broke my toe a couple of years ago but didn't realise for a good few weeks. I thought I just stubbed it badly but the pain kept coming back if I knocked it against something even lightly in the weeks after it. Eventually got it looked at and confirmed it was broken :shrug:

I agree, when you break a bone it seems to continue to hurt from the time of the impact not like other injuries.
I had a laithe dropped on my foot once. Broke a couple of toes and knocked a nail off too. Was hard to tell which hurt more, the bone or the nail going. It smarted a bit when the medic tried to reinsert the toe nail too! :gag:
 
A few years ago whilst on holiday. I woke up one morning with my right big toe bright red, twice the size and very painful, a break I thought. When I arrived home a few days later, I went to the doctor to check it out. He burst out laughing and said it's not broken....... It's gout, had it a couple of times since.:bonk:
 
It depends on how bad the break is, but yes it generally hurts quite a lot. I broke toes quite a few times as a child, one of the times was a very bad break in two places.

One of the most obvious indications of a break is very, very heavy bruising. On all occasions when I've broken fingers and toes, the entire digit has gone completely blue from bruising within a matter of hours.

it may not be broken but if the pain continues over a longer period i would suggest you go back to your GP and ask for a MRI scan on the area affected.i say this because 6 years ago i dropped a very heavy object on my foot/lge toe area.the pain was unbearable with lots of swelling the hospital x/ray confirmed not broken and i rest it for a couple of weeks which i did however over the period since the accident until febuary this year i have put up with occasional severe pain and throbbing,finally i had an MRI which confirmed severe ligament damage and there is very little that can be done and i have to wear special padding in the shoe which helps only slightly

get it sorted NOW

I have broken the same toe ( next to my small one ) on my right foot 3 times. The first 2 i didnt feel it as it was sparring at Thai Boxing but it did hurt later. The 3rd time i kicked a table by accident in my bare feet and my toe went at a right angle--and all i can tell you was the treatment was every bit as bad as the accident itself..:nuts:
 
I broke three toes on my left foot a number of years ago when I rode my motorbike home from work really drunk one christmas (early eighties), I must have clipped the curb with my foot and didn't know I had done it. I went home and straight to bed.

I found out when my wife came home from working a late shift (nurse) and climbed into bed with me, she must have touched my foot and I awoke with a yell. 4 hours of sitting in Casualty and crutches for a couple of weeks taught me a valuable lesson.

Since that day, I have never ridden a bike or driven a car if I have had even a sniff of alcohol. I think myself lucky that that was all that happened to me that day, the bike was a Honda CB900FA Cafe Racer.
 
Broke my right little toe, it's now majorly deformed as after a few hours it stopped hurting and never though tanything more of it, till the lumps became permanent!
