Does ISO affect focusing speed?

Yes
As per the title, I was wondering if ISO affects focussing speed....

I'm off to Farnborough at the weekend armed with my 40D with 70-200 F4L + 1.4TC which would obviously result in shooting at f5.6.

I know that increasing ISO will give me a faster shutter speed, but would this also affect the performance of focussing?

No, ISO has nothing to do with focusing,it will hwlp you in low light.:)

No, the ISO makes no difference. But putting the TC on will slow down the AF noticeably.

While techincally it doesn't - but if you are using high ISO then this invariably means you are shooting in low light and you may struggle to focus in low light! :)

But yea, you're right it doesn't affect it directly.

Ok, so that leaves me with the dilema for Farnborough...

  • use the 70-200 and TC for some extra reach, but at the expense of focus speed
  • or just the 70-200 on it's own for focus speed, but reduced reach
