Does live view effect shutter count?

Yes
Just wondering if live view can effect the shutter count?

Only reason I ask is my camera had about 7600 actuation's when I brought it and now in the space of about 6 months it has jumped to about 15,200 and I am pretty sure I haven't taken about 7000 photo's in that time! It's spent a good few months sitting in the bag but I have been messing about with live view.

Live view affects shutter count only when the shutter is actuated. Merely flicking between live view and VF does not. At least for Canon. ;)

Really? I've heard that it does count, because I saw a discussion topic where one guy was puzzled about his shutter count as he knew he hadn't taken so many photos but his mystery was solved when it turned out that it was because he was using the video function quite a lot - which led me to believe that going into LV does count as an actuation.

Well even more bizarre to my first question I did a Google search for shutter count and used the first link which is www.myshuttercount.com. Found some photo's on my hard drive from when I first got the camera and they were jpegs put them in and it lists shutter count around 15,700 found a RAW file and it lists shutter count down around 5700. Is there a better program about to check this?

I can't vouch for all Canon bodies but the 1D/1Ds series appear to have two counters, one for the shutter and one for the mirror.
The shutter counter doesn't increment for Liveview unless a shot is taken but the mirror counter does....in fact it increments twice if not in silent mode. The counters can be independantly reset by repair centres if one or other of the units are replaced.

I use Opanda http://aerobraintech.blogspot.com/2011/04/shutter-count-using-opanda-iexif.html

Assuming this is for a Nikon D300?

Is it possible your count only goes up to 10,000 so the RAW count is showing the 2nd lot of 5,700 IYSWIM?
