Does the D700 shutter slow down quickly after taking a few constant pics?

Yes
Saw a review of the D700 and in the first part of it the reviewer said it was a fast camera but in the later part said it wasn't a very good camera for sports photography as the shutter speed slowed down very quickly. Please can anyone here clarify? Thanks in advance.

the frame rate will slow after a few seconds continuous shooting (if you're shooting on high FPS) as the buffer will fill and it'll need to catch up writiing to the memory card.

The shutter speed doesn't slow down, what changes is the number of frames per second the camera can write to the card as the buffer fills up...

Does it slow down more quickly than say a D300? Does the D3 have a higher capacity buffer therefore making it more suitable for sports photography?

You get around 16-17 shots with a D300 shooting raw before the buffer fills up and causes the camera to slow down, for the D700 Nikon quote 23 frames and for the D3, 18.

So do other cameras have higher capacity buffers therefore making them slow down later and therefore are more suited to sports photography?

I'm not sure if the figures FITP has quoted for the D3 include the buffer upgrade or not?

What sport?

Exactly how many fps do you want? Maybe its would be better to buy a video camera...

Dependant on settings, of course. D700, shoot jpg and switch off d-lighting and you're hitting 100 before the buffer barfs.
