Hello, I've just been looking at the latest footy news, as I do many times throughout the day. ;)

While doing this I clicked on a link of images from the Liverpool v Everton FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley, and a pic of Jamie Carragher and Tim Cahill apparently just jumped for the ball. Now it's a perfectly sharp picture, and a dynamic pose that I would have been more than happy to take. :) However, I think I'm seeing some kind of distortion effect in the background that I don't think I've seen before.

You can see the image here.

Does anyone else get sort of a rotation feeling to the blur in the background?

If so, what do you think could have caused this?

Some lenses just do that - check out the Helios 44M (not that this shot came from one, but it's a prime example.)

Thanks for the reply, and taking the time to look. :)

I have never seen this weird ritational effect before.

That is quite an old lens you've mentioned. If that has the same effect, then one would hope they could have designed it out (if possible) by now.

Weird bokeh is one name for it but its actually called barrel roll, a characteristic of the lens...
There is another name for it, but it escapes me for the minute...:)

If you want weird bokeh then look at this:

I was not on anything at the time, and neither was the lens:lol:
