Hi guys,
I have noticed on a few threads, when refering to dof, a figure has been included i.e. 5+, what does this refer to and, how is that used when setting your camera.
Thanks
Pete

Is it about Hyperfocal Distance ?

The hyperfocal distance is used to determine where to focus to maximize depth-of-field.

The hyperfocal distance is the focus point where everything from half that distance to infinity is in the depth-of-field zone.

You can determine the hyperfocal distance by using a calculator, such as DOFMaster Online Depth of Field Calculator.

If you focus at the hyperfocal distance, everything will be acceptably sharp from half the hyperfocal distance to infinity.

For example, for a 18mm lens at f/5.6, the hyperfocal distance is 9.45 feet.

If you focus at the above hyperfocal distance, 9.45 feet, everything will be in focus from half the hyperfocal distance, 4.7 feet, to infinity.

does not mean any thing to me, but I have only been at it for 64 years.

EXIF does show that f/5.6 was used for those shots.

Now that leads to another question, how can you get that information from an image posted on the forum?

Drag the image off the post to an exif viewer program, or drag the image to your desktop and right click, depending on your operating system and what programs you have.

WOW, didn't work on my desktop but, all the info is there in ps, thanks Martyn:thumbs:

If your on Windows, download opanda exif viewer (its free), Mac download exif viewer (its also free).

It will even tell you how many times your shutter has fired if you run one of your latest jpegs through it.

Unless it the micro adjustment in camera for a lens at that DOF (Depth of Field) doesn't sound right though

having read the post 4 mentioned above I think the guy means the F stop of 5.6
