I'm looking to have a spring clean of my laptop as it is running a bit slow. the 120gb hard drive is almost full too.

I was thinking of going through my hard drive and all my photo albums and backing them up on disc and an external hard drive. Also I would re size a lot of the photos i wanted constant access to so at least i have them and they save space.

Plus i was gonna do a system defrag as im on Windows vista.

Any other tips on what else i can do to make it a bit more snappy?

Thanks in advance

external drive ...NEVER TO DISK !!!! you can get a vairety Id say a external 3.5 as they normally need a powersource so will stay in one place and wont be abused thrown about alot so will survive that tid bit longer

Id recommend western digital, as they turn the drive off when not in use and thus can keep the hdd alive that little bit longer

Id check the running programs

start>run>"msconfig"

close down startup apps that you dont need or want

uninstall all those programs you never use... "Revo Uninstaller" is an excellent option

CCleaner and itll get rid of loads of random temp files !!!

defraggeler or smart scan

GET YOUR SERVICE PACKS AND UPDATES !!!!

graphics drivers may help too

oh an upgrade in ram is always an excellent option and its dead easy to change

go to kingston's website to find the correct ram for your machine :)

Always have a backup of your images, so if your going to copy them all to an external drive- what happens if that fails?

Another vote for CCleaner, I use it on a regular basis. I also use SyncToy, freebie from Microsoft to automatically backup my data to an external drive.
