Back in camp now after a few days out and minus one lens:
Broke my 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens clambering over a 12ft wall into an compound with a bunch of guys from 2nd Bn Royal Regiment of Fusileers...
Slipped going over and the lens clunked really hard against the metal ladder we were using - optically it's OK but the AF gears seem to have have slipped meaning it no longer works on AF setting (horrible crunch-crunch-crunch noise and continuously hunting back and forth without getting a lock) - I managed to soldier on for the remainder of the patrol using MF, but with just the plain screen it's a lot harder than it used to be with a fresnel screen and centre split-circle...the gearing is very fine compared to older MF lenses I used to use and the slightest movement throws it out...bum...
Back to Nikon it goes - and...out of the Peli-case comes the spare 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens...all shiny and new...
What? Doesn't everyone have loads of spare lenses?
