Seems to be an awful lot of talk and worry on here lately about how sharp a lens/camera is, checking for minute degrees of focus and other assorted flaws imagined or not

All this angst must spoil the enjoyment a bit, maybe my set up is fractionally out of kilter or there again perhaps the minute scratch on my lens is noticeable.
Got to say I don't really know or care for that matter, photos seem fine to me and would much rather be out and about than doing bench tests

Also find it strange how cameras get sold looking like they did when purchased, I'm not advocating being careless, but the odd mark here and there is inevitable. Seems crazy to just have a cupboard queen and spend loads of cash on something that can't be enjoyed

Thought a hobby was meant to be relaxing, a time to forget other worries, not look for yet more to get fretful about

Very sensible approach and opinion...

I couldn't agree more with everything you have said Rich.

This is definitely one of the more sane photography forums on the net. I have been perusing the DPReview forums recently (mainly for info around the launch of 5DmkIII and accessories) and I really can't get my head around the mindset of many who post there, especially in Canon forums. If gum gnashing was an Olympic sport then they would clean-up on the medal front.

100% behind you on this one. I look after my camera and lens but i carry them everywhere with me and they get USED. so what if they are not worth as much when i come to upgrade. I brought them to take photo's not to get my money back when resold!!

I agree with you here, it is a hobby and there to be enjoyed, insurance is there for the odd mishaps.

Don't have time to take photographs now, too busy reading all the posts on sharp lens, fast lenses, flash guns , flash triggers and many many more issues on here

You don't have to be a racing driver to appreciate a sports car guys. Just as much fun can come from tuning said car than driving it. Granted, there should be a balance and there is no point owning it if you don't drive it!

Some people just love technology!

Can't complain about picking up used 20D's in the classified that are like new for £130-140 though.

But it has changed my mindset, I got my 400D when it was the current model and it cost me a fortune. Now it wouldn't bother me buying a body that's a good few years old and saving my pennies for lenses (the ones that don't loose much money).

This reminds me of me when I wanted to buy my first kit. I still do it :(
