Dot on lens

Hi

I am neither knowledgeable nor skilled with photography, but in the last couple of years I have found myself doing more and more.

I have a problem with a dot which has appeared on the lens of my Canon Powershot G9.

In this picture you can see that it is roughly at the top left corner.

I have tried to remove it with Eclipse optical cleaning fluid and a microfibre cloth but this does not work.

It is a bit of a concern as this is my only camera.

I'm wondering if anyone here might have some suggestions?

is the spot visable on the actual lens itself? If not, I would be concerned its on the sensor or back of lens - something of a problem on a compact as you can't really access either - a job for the experts unless you are very technically minded/handed.
 
Looks like a classic sensor dust spot to me...pretty much a job for the pro's on a G9.

You can use photo editing software to remove the spot from your pictures. I used photoshops Spot Removal tool. The clone brush also works well for spots like this. You can see the photo with spot removed here. http://www.sendspace.com/file/lw784b
 
Definitely looks like a spot of dust on your sensor. On a DSLR this would be an easy fix but on your G9 it is a job for the experts unfortunately.
If you add a location to your profile information I'm sure someone can recommend a good repair shop near to you.
 
First, thank you to Yv, Edsport, Canon Bob and TriggerHappy.

I have looked at the lens extremely closely indeed with a magnifying glass. In the place where I guess there might be an object in fact there is a small patch that may not be as transparent as the lens, however it is so slight it might in fact just be my imagination :)

I have spent quite a lot of time cleaning the lens with fluid and a cotton bud so now I think it is time to take the camera to an expert. I live in Hove, beside Brighton of course, so if anyone knows of any good places in Brighton & Hove please do let me know.

The removal of the spot by Edsport is hugely impressive. I do have Photoshop CS4 (because I am involved with a university I was able to buy it very cheaply) however like so many with Photoshop I use about 2% of its capabilities. I will check out the spot removal business.
