Double mounting rings

Has anybody ever used a reverse mounting ring to mount 2 lens's back to front to use as a close up macro lens????

I mount my 50mm on the front of my 105mm. Got the ring from China via ebay for about £6 all in.

Many years ago, I used 2 Cokin rings to reverse one 55mm onto the front of another one. Of course, metering was pretty much guesswork and focussing wasn't easy but I did get reasonable results (now lost in the course of many moves. )
