Downsizing, but which lenses

Yes
I'm thinking of downsizing my current kit to something a little lighter and easier to travel with/carry about.

Thanks to these forums I have a 450D on its way, but might also rethink my lens selection.

Once the 450D has arrived and had some use I will decide if the current 40D is to be sold. My current lenses consits of a Tamron 28-75 and a Canon 70-200 F4 L. I am missing the wide end at present, but this would obviously require a third lens.

I know the 40D is the superior camera, but to be honest I'm probably not using it to its full potential and am not sure if I can justify keeping it.

My quandry is that I want to cover the range from say 10mm to 200mm, but I'm not sure whenther to buy that third lens (wide), or sell what I have and go for two lenses to cover the same range.

Any thoughts? If I were to go for two lenses for the 450D which once would you suggest? :)

With your current collection I would consider swapping the 28-75 for something like the 15-85mm. Sure, you still don't get out to 10mm but then again 15mm is still pretty wide.
Keep the 70-200mm - you'll miss it if it goes.

Definitely keep the 70 200, personally I would either go for the Sigma 10-20 which I have and is very good, or what about a 17-85 is as these were around in the 40d kits cheap from Argos there are many about s/h at good prices, which is why I am not selling mine now lol.

or what about a 17-85 is.
I do have one of these which came with my 40D kit, but I don't use. Reason being that I just don't get on with it and do not rate the IQ - too soft the majority of time.

I'd get a 10-20 UWA as well, but if you want to have minimal kit then the 17-55 2.8IS would be good with the 70-200. OK you're missing 55-70 but for me that wouldn't be an issue. Unless you've got money worries too, the 17-55 ain't exactly cheap.

I'd swap your current Tamron lens for the 17-50, unless you really need 10m

If I'm travelling light, with as few lenses as I think I can get away with, I'll take just 3 lenses - a 12-24, a 24-70 and a 70-?00. If the body I take is FF or film, the ? is a 3, if it's a Dx body, i'll probably thake a 70-200 instead (unless I'm expecting tele opportunities, in which case the 70-300 VR comes along).

I cover a similar range with two lenses in my bag I have a Sigma 17-70 and an old Canon 70-210 f4. Every now and then I fancy something wider but I've never been tempted enough to splash the cash.

Sounds like a good option. I was thinking of going the 10-20 route, but for general purpose walkabout I like the range the 15-85 offers and reviews seem good (much better than the 17-85 which I will sell on).

Well the 15-85 has arrived.

Not cheap, granted, but I rather hope to stick with this one for a while. It certainly gives me the useful range I need, especially for a general walkabout lens for travelling, etc. I'm impressed with he quality feel of the lens and the first few shots look promising - nice and sharp and lovely colours. Need to get out now (hopefully with a bit of sunshine) and put it to good use.

I just got mine a few weeks ago ( Thanks Kerso :) ) Really pleased with it so far as well.
