I managed to capture this Downy Emerald dragonfly emerging in a local woodland. The lighting was quite tricky, with the dragonfly in the shade, but dappled bright sunlight striking the trees behind. I used the wireless flash on my 7D and underexposed the background 1 stop to get this shot.

Stunning capture (y)
well done and thanks for sharing

Wow thats a cracker.
I have seen damselflies emerging but never a dragonfly

I'd suggest rotating it to landscape, took me a second to figure it out :p maybe thats just me though!

Nicely done Mark! I'll be looking for similar soon, hope I have the same success!!

Scott

Hi Scott - I hope you do too. Good hunting and don't forget to post the results. Don't leave it too late though as they start emerging earlier in the morning as the summer progresses and some even emerge overnight.

Great capture! How long does the process take?

Hi Chris

Thanks for your comment. It can take upto 3 hours, so you have to be patient, but it does give you plenty of time to ensure you've got the sshot right.
