Drobo external storage

Does anyone have one of these? I've got 8 x 750GB Barracuda 7200.10 SATA hard drives I'd like to use for backup storage and want to know if they would fit into one of the Drobo units that you can buy. Has anyone got one and what do they think of it?

watch out for using RAID devices as a single point of backup. keep a 2nd copy on another drive also, if a RAID controller fails it can destroy data on all attached drives.

Yeah. Apparently though the Drobo is different in the way it handles the data. But I've always been good with backup techniques, just looking for a more effective solution.

You may find that buying a simple enclosure may be cheaper? There are ones on the market now that are less expensive than the Drobo, especially if you are going to run it as JBOD.

thought the benefit of drobo was that it wasnt as unreliable as RAID stand alone systems

It is, which is why I'd like to get my hands on one. I have a RAID device at work which we don't use so I'm thinking of buying the hard drives from work and slotting them into a drobo instead.
