Evening all. Just wondering if anyone can tell me the cheapest place to get a repair quote please? My Sigma ART 50mm took a swan dive in a casino at the weekend and badly lost a fight with the floor. AF is mashed, won't even manually focus. Snapped a couple of the plastic bits at the body end as well.

LCE quoted me £35!!!

If that isn't an April Fool hoax, it's a great bargain. Bite their hands off.
The fixed price tariff might not apply to impact damage.
I think that's just for the quote Stewart

Steve, you may be right. They've just quoted me £98.99 for something..not sure what. Just asked them if that's what the cost of inspection is.

That's Tarrif no.6 on Sigma's web site ... repair to 50mm ART.

My 85mm f1.4 has a small ding on the front element ... £200 that's going to cost me from Sigma. Luckily it doesn't affect IQ so I can live with it for the moment.

Quote..."Its likely to be £98.99 in total for the repair of the lens. This cost also includes the return delivery. We will inpect the lens free of charge and send you an estimate once a technician has identified what needs doing to get your lens back to manufacturing standard. If you refuse the estimate the charge is £14.99."

I still don't get what is £98.99 but £15 for an inspection is a damn sight easier to swallow than £35. All due respect to Sigma, it'll cost a helluva lot more than £99. I'll get it posted today.

Thanks all for your input and responses.

I would have thought a dropped and damaged lens would fall in category 10.

Apparently it's Tarrif 7.

£131.99 all in. I can't believe that but I called them and they confirmed it. Thanks everyone

That's better than it could have been, I'm sure you are happy (as happy as you can be with a broken lens and a repair bill ;)).

Nail on the head!

I'd have only been happier if it was a write off and I got a new lens. I'll suck up the £130 and pay it myself though and not bother with my insurance.
