Dslr advice wanted

Im thinking of getting a dslr to take portrait and landscape photos and maybe some at the motocross track. Will I need to buy different lenses for each or would one do the job until I convince the wife into letting me blow more cash

Landscape needs a wider angle but others say any lens will do. Ther Tamron 17-50 is supposed to be a good alround lens

If you want to take pictures of things far away, eg at a track, you'll need a telephoto zoom. Eg 70-300mm. Prices range from £200 to £1000 or even more for pros
