DSLR budget of £400 what do you recommend?

Hi All,

Looking for some advice from you knowledgable people!

Was at work today and a friend asked me what dslr I would get if I had £400. As it happens his wife is expecting so i am assuming this is the main reason he/they would like the camera.

He mentioned he didnt mind new or 2nd hand so would like to know what you guys would spend the budget on?

if it was me id be looking (and i am, as i have about the same budget at the mo) at a 30D or 40D.

im guessing he has no lenses, so mabe a 30d and a half decent lens, as opposed to stretching to a 40D + 15-55 kit. good price on a 30D and a used tamron 17-50 2.8 might be possible, good combo if you can get it for under £400

if used: canon 400/450d or like brad said, a 30d. stick a tamron 17-50 2.8 on it or a 50mm 1.8 on if funds are tight.

if new: sony a390 with kit lens, should be had for £350ish
