I am moving from dslr to Compact system camera because my dslr is to heavy to carry around after a while it like carring a brick . A csc seems to be a lighter better bet . As i am looking to keep most of what you get from a dslr any idea on the best one ?
 
Since you use Sony, if you have been pleased with it, why not go for a Nex?
 
Hi, You would not be dissapointed if you went for one of the "Fuji X" cameras. If you check the X-E1 or X Pro1 threads you'll get an idea of just how good they are. Hope this helps.
 
I think that you'll need to decide if you want a RF style or DSLR style camera and VF or just a back screen. Another consideration is in body or lens IS. Once you decide on those issues you can reduce the list of possible choices.

IMVHO even my first generation G1 can match a DSLR at low ISO and I'm sure that the latest CSC better all but the very best DSLR's for image quality so I'm pretty sure you'll be happy once you can select a model from the many possibilities.
 
there are only a few reasons l got a sony dslr was before i had a minolta slr and they were bought by Sony and my old lens fitted my new sony. And also it was on sale 1/2 price . in my budget otherwise i woud of bought a nikon .
 
you can get a good adapter or two for emount to a mount.
a cheaper option is a optech sling strap, 15 quid, a ton better than oem strap - incase your using default strap

I think you need to expand on what features of the DSLR you want to keep as CSCs sometimes don't cover them well.
Are you talking about IQ, focusing, viewfinder, external buttons etc,.
 
yes i am hopeing to keep the viewfinder as it would be difficult to see lcd in the sun . plus some more

On NEX if you want to keep a vf (on any mirrorless it will be an evf) then the NEX-6 is probably your best bet (by the timethat you put an optional EVF on a 5 it will be dearer).
Pretty much no CSCs does fast tracking AF like a DSLR yet if that is a consideraton.

Budget is also critical. And the type of photography?

I have an Olympus OM-D because I wanted lightning quick AF in a smaller setup than my DSLR as I have two little kids and wanted it for days out/family shots etc.

If I didn't need the AF speed to be near instant then I would have very probably gone for a Fuji X-E1 or X-Pro1 for the image quality in low light, the solid build and amazing prime lenses. And I think I've become a Fuji fanboy :-)

But those cameras are on the top end of the CSC price range.

Sony seem pretty good but I don't like the lens choice (without adaptors and messing around) and I prefer the retro style of Fuji and Olympus.

Panasonic are good but I do love the fact that all Olympus CSC bodies have image stabilisation built in so any lens will have IS and they share the same lenses, which there is a large range of and great quality options.

What quality do you need? You can get very good photos from the Fuji X20 all in one camera and it has a viewfinder, fast lens and sex appeal :-) it's a great little go everywhere camera and could save you lots of cash of you are happy with the image quality from it. I love mine.
