I'm currently using a Canon 70D, 70-200 f4 non IS & 24-105 f4. I'm looking to downsize, my passion is in people/street so I'm looking for something portable, quiet, access to wide apertures, but good quality. I previously had a fuji X10 which I loved but found the fixed lens limiting & resolution not as high as I would like.

I know compact systems have moved on so would really appreciate some advice. Price will need to be under what I can sell my current kit for which I'm figuring will be around the £800 mark?
 
Sony a6000?
 
Or a7 for full frame and get a speed booster to mount you're lenses
 
If looking to change now I think I'd hang on a bit and see what the reviews and feedback are like for the new Olympus Pen, Fuji mk2 (I forget the model number) and the new Sony A6000 series. Or, read up on the models they replace and go for a bargain end of line camera.
 
As above, Sony a6000 if you want APS, or maybe look a something like the Olly EM5-II which has a totally silent shutter option too. Combined with the 20mm pancake the Olly would be pretty small and discrete and give great IQ, and of course there's the flippy touch screen that helps to be even more discrete with street stuff.

I do love my A7 but I'm not sure it's a "street" camera or that a camera and lens will meet the budget but if going for a mk1 and if used with a manual lens for old style zone focus then maybe :D

PS. On the silent (electronic) shutter, this is a feature I thought I'd love but in reality I think it can cause as many problems as it solves and now I hardly use it.

Thanks for the quick replies. Wasn't really aware of the Sony A6000 or Olympus EM5 series they both look worth reading up on! I think the A7 is probably going to be out of budget (as is the xpro2!). I liked the retro design of the X10 and the olympus has that too...!
 
Just noticed I was looking at EM5 mk1. The mk2 is likely to be out of budget too!
 
There's always the fuji XE2, similar retro styling but cheaper than an XPro2

Depends if you're willing to buy used or grey? There's always the EM10-II, I think that has silent mode too.
 
I have just done the same thing, got a Fuji XT-1 an 18-135 and a 27mm f2.8 I love it, more to the point I use it

Nothing fake or poor about viewfinders in good CSC's, no issue with grip on my EM5-II (or the EM1, or the A6000, or the X-T1.......), and the 100-300mm (200-600mm) I had for my Olly was a fraction of the size and weight of the 150-600mm I have for my Nikon :p
 
Have you thought about a dual system?
Keep the Canon and try out a CSC (maybe a second hand Nex6 {a new Nex 5 with the better standard lens is available for £250 from John lewis/Digitalrev}), until you make up your mind.
You can try it out and sell it on without losing much if it's not for you.
At least you'll have a bit of hands on to see the pros and cons of a smaller system

I have considered that but when shooting Street the 70d is really loud unless I use live view but I don't really like that, I prefer a viewfinder!

Ideally I just want a silent body with a 24mm & 50mm or similar lens combo!
 
Olympus make a lovely 12mm f2. I went for the 17mm f1.8 myself, they're both lovely lenses with "snapshot focus mechanism."

These are MFT lenses.

What about the Panny GX7, can pick it up on amazon with the excellent 20mm f1.7 (40mm eq) Pancake lens for £549. Then you could save a bit more and get a second hand 12mm f2. The GX7 has a totally silent mode too. The EVF's not as good as the EM5-II and EM10-II but it's decent enough.
 
The GX7 evf is IMHO camera ruining. I prefer the one on my G1 :(

I'd advise anyone thinking about a GX7 to try one first and see if they can live with the evf.

The best 'street' camera in my opinion providing you want to change lenses is the Olympus E-M10. The Mk1 is slightly sharper apparently and is superb value for money. The GX7 from Panasonic is also a cracking camera.

If you were just doing street then I would look at the Ricoh GR or the up coming Fuji X70.

I have the wonderful wonderful wonderful Sony A7 and am looking to get an A6000 to compliment it so I can share lenses. They are again great value for money at the moment. The only gripe is the lack of decent lenses but there should be enough to cover most bases. The Superb FE full frame lenses work well on the A6000 and they are not too silly in size. I'll be getting the Sony Zeiss 24mm f1.8 as this is a lens I ahve been wanting since the original NEX5 came out.

One thing to note is that the shutter on the A6000 is pretty loud.

What is it that you don't like so much? As I said it's not as good as the EM10, or EM5-II but wasn't bad imo. I didn't get any of the rainbow tearing effects I've heard people mention. My main critique would be that it's too contrasty and it's a bit small, but perfectly livable.

Silent shutter mode. You can barely hear it.
 
Doh! Found it although there is a distinct Shutter lag when you use it on either silent single or silent multi shot mode. I do think I need something smaller. I'm looking at the fuji range but not convinced!
