Hey guys/girls first post finally (spent 15 mins trying to read the capcha's)
I've got a canon 40d that I bought a while a go and I'm looking to upgrade the body to a camera with hd video as on my uni course I think I'd end up using it a lot more with the added functionality.

I'm very out of the loop in terms of model numbers so i was hoping with a bit of help. I guess I want to spend no more than about 600? body only.
I was also wondering if you know anywhere that would do a good part exchange for the 40d. or whether I'm better selling it somewhere, or if it's not worth anything now. etc etc.

Not the best person to talk about Canon but:

A 60D is about 700£ if you shop around brand new. I think at the moment is about as good as you will get. If build quality and buttons are a priority for you try and stick with that, otherwise you can go a bit lower by purchasing a 600D.

Your camera depending on condition/shutter actuations would be just over 300£
 
cheers for your posts guys. My eyes lit up at 300 for my 40d, that would be a great price! Do you know any reputable places to sell or is ebay the best bet?

I'm looking at the 60d at the moment... it looks pretty decent.
 
The 300 figure is derived by the prices charged at MPB photography, the cheapest 40D you can see there is £329 the most expensive £369. So if it is in excellent condition and only very little used then you are looking for 300£ s/h.

Selling it in a store for a trade in will probably net you a lot less than that so best option is either eBay or wait to get 100 posts and 30 days on here and sell it on the classifieds (I assume the rules have not changed since I joined).

60D is a great camera. If you are in no rush to sell your 40D then make your self knows on here, make some friends, join in with some posts and then they might be kind enough to let you in to the classifieds ;-)
