Dubious?

I wouldn't be so quick to discount it Sean. He has a lot of good feedback for other expensive camera gear reaching back years.

You may get stung with import duty but that isn't really my area.
 
I would think you would be fine buying from here. He's had a lot of very high value gear sold and still has 100% feedback. One of his items was a 'blad digital back for nearly $14K and has a history going back to 2009. I'm pretty sure you'll get hit for import duty and taxes on top of the lens price, but the photos of the lens look good and if you can't find one elsewhere for the price I'd say go for it. If you use Paypal you are going to be covered by them anyway.
Alternatively, you could go to www.panamoz.com and get this http://panamoz.com/index.php/lens/nikon/nikon-af-s-nikkor-300mm-f-4d-if-ed-fx-full-frame-lens.html new for £728, I know it's a lot more but with an extra 2 year warranty for another £8 and around £10 for p&p it's still a good price. I've used Panamoz a few times and can recommend them heartily. They are grey imports, so they have to go to Panamoz first IF they go wrong, but it's up to you if you take the risk. You don't get much of a warranty from the ebay seller by the looks of it.

Probably genuine but i usually tend to avoid purely because of the hassle and the time it takes to get here. Also note the following

Personally, it's overpriced; £490 BIN plus the £25 postage (and possibly the import duty)is a lot for a lens that regularly sells for less than £450 over here on the private used market.

ApertureUK has one in (marked as EXC++) for £470, and that's a secondhand dealer. I've seen them on TPO for as low as £350.
 
I have seen theses for sale in this country s/h,for about the same price or less :)


Plus looking at the add,i think i know this shop,a few years ago was travelling thought HK,carrying a very large Pentax 200mm F2.8 lens,which i didnt need any more,they brought it of me,at a good price,if it is the same shop,they were very nice people,spent a good couple of hours in their talking,and they had a lot of nice high end stuff for sale.

Seems expensive to me. I sold mine for a lot less than that. If it was the AF-S version then fair enough. Im sure you could get one in this country with a lot less hassle for about the same or less.

Tom has hit the nail on the head, it's not the AF-S version and even discounting the extra shipping and duty charges it's still pretty expensive for what it is.
