Duck ID required, please.

Spotted today, standing in a German woodland pond.

Standing on one leg wasn't enough to fool me (clever disguise though ), but the colour of the plumage was - there's nothing remotley like this in my Collins Bird Guide.

Looks like it might be a juvenille of some kind, although it's as big as a grown mallard!?

Any ideas :shrug: ....

Is that common with mallards then, that they interbreed and throw up a lot of colour variations? I don't know much about ducks :|.

Here it is again, having a little preen.

You can see the bluey-tinge to the feathers (definitley a magpie cross ).
