Yes
hi see a lot about hdr ,what is it exactly been to the site but seems to be a lot of seperate modules thanks

High Dynamic Range
cameras take pictures at one exposure level with a limited contrast range. This results in the loss of detail in bright or dark areas of a picture, depending on whether the camera had a low or high exposure setting. HDR compensates for this loss of detail by taking multiple pictures at different exposure levels and intelligently stitching them together to produce a picture that is representative in both dark and bright areas.

In other words by combining under-exposed with well-exposed and over-exposed shots it brings out the best of all areas, making the dark areas lighter and the bright areas darker, thus (if done well) producing an evenly exposed picture full of rich detail throughout the entire dynamic range.

thanks gramps so is hdr the photomatix program or a plugin for something else cheers

HDR is the photographic process - Photomatix is one piece of software that automates the process of getting an HDR image from a number of differently exposed photos (by bracketing).

cheers gramps,so you have to set your camera to bracketing and use the program on the multiple images and not just on a single image then, sorry its new to me

is there any other software you can use hdr with ie is it a plugin for lightroom or photoshop etc

here is a facilty for HDR toning contained within the Photoshop CS5 programme - Its useful but not brilliant

Les :D

HDR works best with multiple images at different exposures but as Les says, there are ways to do it with a single image ... Photomatix has a provision for doing it with 1 image and CS5 has the same ... there are probably other programmes that do as well.

Just a thought but by how much would you bracket and how many shots, and does the final image suffer thanks

One important issue for me in HDR photography, is there has to be a high dynamic range. I see photographs posted of scenes that could be photographed with one exposure.

Cheers.
