Hi , just a quick question regarding dust in my lens , i know it is inevitable after a period of time but my 100-400 as a couple of specs ,it is 7 months old and i just thought that with it still being under warranty i may be worth asking canon if they could clean it at i reduced rate ,as anyone ever had dust issues with a lens still under warranty. Thanks

They would probably get more in than they got out, it will not effect your images, so best left alone.

Here are some images with a "scratched lens" LINK

Canon regard dust in lenses as an almost-inevitable process and they won't clean it for you as a warranty issue. If you've got big lumps of black crud in there it could mean that the zoom tensioniong device is faulty and they would fix that under warranty. But that wouldn't be "a couple of specks".

Dust in a lens whilst under warranty, sure. It happens all the time. Dust issues - no. It doesn't affect your images, so what kind of "issues" could there be?

Ha ha. That's happened to me a few times when there have been specactularly large pieces of crud in there after a repair. If that happens I send it back, and Canon do always clean it out, but the repair note usually has a snotty comment about dust being inevitable.

I've got a couple of specks in mine and it's under 6 months old. No intention of sending it back for a clean, it doesn't affect IQ at all, and as others have said, it may come back worse. I have a real hard time finding it most of the time, so I don't worry about it at all.

Your local camera store may offer cleaning though if it does become an issue, sometimes earier than returning to manufacturer.
