Dust or Fungus inside my lens??

To me this just looks very very dirty and I'm getting the lens in question (200mm f/2.8L) Cleaned very soon, just been googling things and the mention of Fungus has come up a lot, I hope this isn't the case so any advice if it is or not will be highly appreciated! This shot was taken holding the lens upto the light.

Looks like dust to me and some fibres. I have had a few old manual lenses in my time and fungus looks like white spider webs, crazing or spores etc......... Best way to check is get a torch and shine it through the lens in a dark room, it will be evident.

I have backed my puter up onto an external ready for changing I will try and dig out some pics to show fungus.

I try to avoid shining lights in my glass....I find I sleep better ha ha.

Big question is IMO if your unable to see any repetitive spots etc on images why worry?

Defo clean as part of a service but other wise most just ignor it if not effecting images, I did return a brand new 100-400ii as it has specs of dust in so maybe I am talking tosh..lol

Thanks for the quick reply guys, just got the torch out and turned the light off no sign off anything spider web like, you can only see what you can see in the pic pretty much, I think it is as you say some dust and muck form build up overtime, thank god for that ay! I really do need to get it cleaned do you recommend anywhere to get it cleaned and at what price?

Nothing showing up on the images no, I think getting it cleaned is a good option as I do think it is in need of a service.
 
I think it's wise to service them, inspection of seals etc plus a clean up... problem with seeing those specs etc is you start t think they will effect your shots, many have told me over the years it's not the case and I should forget it and go take some photos..lol

I have a couple of other things that need a service aswell so this can add to the expensive list :D best to get it looked out now instead of enduring more problems later down the road if you get where I'm coming from

On phone at mo, but iirc I used Miles Whitehead I think to clean a lens for fungus a couple of years ago. Have a google of him, he done a good job for me.

From what I've read, the MKII is EXACTLY the same lens optically and in terms of focus system. It's just an aesthetics "upgrade". ;)
 
Not sure with Canon lenses but with my Nikon 18-200mm I made a 'key' to unscrew the front element, gave it a clean and screwed it back on. It took longer to make the 'key' than to clean the lens. I wouldn't attempt a rear element though as there is electronics involved.

OK, just got a quote from him - saves £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££'s over Nikon.
 
Bit of an update - my Zeiss 21mm took a bath just over a week ago - sent it to Miles for cleaning and drying - just received back today in perfect condition, all for 50 notes/
No complaints. Excellent service.

My 200mm is in with him at the movement, estimated 10-14 working days, looking forward to seeing the difference when I get it back myself, good to hear of your lens getting that treatment, good prices aswell aren't they!
