Dust or fungus?

I've seen this lens for sale and the seller has stated it is fungus and dust. What surprises me is that the lens is an IF lens so is sealed, or supposedly. Was wondering if the kind folk on here had anything to say on it.

"IF" doesn't mean sealed but it means better weather proofing
and, that's why I use mainly these, there is no air exchange
with the outside of the barrel.

I can't see from this pict what it could be but is it an old lens?
What is it exactly? … looks like a 70~200 but not sure.

If it's only on the edge of the element it is unlikely to affect any images greatly, unless it spreads!
Personally I wouldn't knowingly bring fungus into contact with my kit

It's a 70-200 VR Mk1 lens.

Fungus spores are everywhere though, it's more about how you store your kit, not what it's sat next to

If it's selling for a reasonable price it looks like there isn't too much of a problem - put it on a window sill to clear it up.

You could get a good newer f4 version for little more than that ... personally I don't see that as a bargain price if it's got fungus.

That's a lot of money for a lens with issues. Fair enough it's not a big problem, but all the same

It's a 1kg box

It would probably be best to let someone else have the pleasure of that lens.
It's also difficult to move the lens on when it is time to sell it.

I was watching this very lens and considered it but the risk is too great if it went pair shaped. It's not worth it. on the face of it it looks tempting as the pics don't show much at all.

That's just the visible fungus. What else is hiding inside?

It looks like dust to me so I would buy.. at a reduced price though. I'd ask for the cost of cleaning the lens to be knocked off the final selling price

Not the one I asked about in this post. I bought the mint one instead and having received it I'm very happy I did.
The seller of the one with dust/fungus got back to me eventually and I told him I did not want it.
