DX Lens on an FX Camera

Hi All,

I seemed to remember that you can set a D700 FX camera to take a DX lens, but I am blowed if I can find the setting.

It's just that my Daughter will be using the D700 over the weekend and the 18 - 20 VR She used to use on the D300 is a great all rounder.

Means I can keep hold of my 70 - 200 which She hogged at Poole harbour this week and the 24 - 70.

Anyone remember/know how to do this or am I totally wrong and you cannot do it?

I think the D700 senses it automatically, the D3 certainly does

It's 'Image Area' in the 'Shooting Menu'.

I've a feeling that even when set to auto, it won't always pick up on whether there's a DX lens attached, at least in the case of third party lenses.
