Evening all,

Does anyone know how I can get my Yahoo mail account set up on my Mac without paying to upgrade to the Yahoo plus??

Or is this an inevitable thing that I will just have to bite the bullet and do!

Yes(!)

You need your username and password (!)

And the addresses of the servers are:

pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk

smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

If you use Mail's wizard to setup the acct, it always appends 'plus' to the beginning of the pop and smtp addresses - just wait for it to time out, click continue and edit out the plus so that the addresses are as above, and then you're pretty much done.

ps I have tested this on my ersatz yahoo.co.uk and it works fine with the above server addresses in both directions.

Have tried your approach, many thanks. i still have the problem though, seems mail is not connecting at all to my Yahoo account. any other suggestions, either on how to completely reset the mail to start again or anything else?

Brad,

Sorry to disappoint you but you will definitely need the Yahoo Plus account. That is a bit of a con by them just to screw you for a bit more money.
 
I got round it by forwarding all my mail from my yahoo accounts to a gmail account. No problems synching a gmail account with mail. I also set the yahoo account to empty when it sent the new mail so I haven't logged into it in months. Instructions somewhere in the yahoo settings about forwarding.
