As an example, a 400mm. Would more than one lens of that type have the same EAN #?
 
Another (identical) item of the same type should have the same EAN#. Manufacturers sometimes have their own bar code systems which include item serial numbers but they're not EAN's anymore.

They might have different EAN's if released into different markets, ie Asia Vs EU.
 
depends.. an EAN (basically a format of barcode) can be a model or serial number identifier etc..

also depends if its an internal use number or external (i.e. on the outside of the packaging for retail stores to scan), if external then it will most likely be model specific as they have to be purchased. if internal use they could mean anything.

EAN refers to "European Article Number" and is not specifically a barcode although it can, and usually is, represented in that fashion.
