Easily fixed?

I have just bought a 50mm 1.4 af-s G. The focus measurement reading moves fine when I twist the manual focus ring to the left When I twist it to the right to increase the focal distance, it gets to around half way mark on the readout I have to then really twist the ring lots to get it to move at little increments. It's like there is not enough grip inside to move whatever changes the distance reading.

Can anyone tell me if this can be easily fixed?
If not ill have to send it back to the seller and search for another. A shame as the lens is in superb condition otherwise.

I expect its easily fixed, but you'll still have to pay for it. Either send it back, or get the seller to pay for the repair.

Dean, I just had a look at my AF-S 50mm f1.4G and the focus ring moves the scale at a constant rate - there's no change in either direction (L or R) and the friction doesn't change either. The ring is smooth end to end and it gets from the 0.45 scale mark to infinity in just over half a turn - both ways.

Yours sounds like something is not engaging properly when turning to the right.

I have been told it will be in the region of £50 - £70 to repair. Which would take the cost of the lens to the price of a new shop bought one.

I have told the seller and that ill be mailing him the lens back later.

In the mean time I'm going to take a D700 to a shop and try the 50mm 1.8 to compare them. Then ill make a my mind up which will fit the bill (price vs 0.4) and start to look for a replacement.

Just been to the PO and sent the lens back.
I now have the 1.8. Its not as nice build quality wise but it seemed to focus as quick as the l.4.
It will do the job nicely
