The Purple Swamp Hen is distributed widely throughout Australia.
They forage for roots, shoots, bamboo leaves and frogs at the edge of swamps and marshes.
There is a predominance of male birds that will mate with significantly fewer females.
They are quite large birds and are good swimmers and flyers that quickly leave if approached too closely.
They are also known to eat baby ducklings if they can catch them.

Good shots Mark, #1 and 4 look spot on but I am seeing a coloured cast to #2, and 3 and 4 could be brightened up a bit I reckon

looks like a hard :boxer::bat:version of the British moor-hen :D
Hi Gary, yes, the PSH is actually a Moorhen sub-species.

Thanks Rich, you're right. There is a cyan colour cast in the midtone shadow areas of #2, $3, #4 created when adding saturation to the plumage. I should have done that selectively on the bird alone.
