Ebay Battery grips

im after getting a battery grip for my nikon d40 as not only will it extend the battery life but it will also make it easier to handle for me cos i have big hands :p

so has anyone got one of these grips off ebay? if so what are they like
 
A lot of us have them, I think the general view is that they are excellent, certainly mine is.
 
is fitting them easy? i would imagine the battery cover would have to be removed on the d40?
 
I use D200's and on one body I have the official nikon grip whilst on another a 3rd party make
The 3rd party is way better IMO and was a 3rd of the price !

yep, you have to remove the cover, which, on the D80 at least, was a doddle :) there's usually a slot to store them in the grip.

I've got a 3rd party grip on mine, the camera feels so much better with it on :)

I'd also like to know what eBay brands people use for D200 grips.

A quick question, and seeing as this topic is relevant I thought I'd post here: Removal of a D40 battery cover. Does it just snap out or is there a catch that needs to be released?

OK, I figured it out, it just pulls free.
 
Chris open the cover so its 45 degrees from the body and pull
 
Yeah I got it eventually :D Was being too careful, I didn't want to break my new baby!
 
I also have one of these so called cheap and nasty grips from HK ,it's never been off the camera ,i don't know haw i managed without it before ,oh ...two batteries came with it (non canon) ,they've been in the camera for about 3 wks now been out most nights and weekends ,still don't need charged .I'd actually stick my neck out and say their better than the canon :thumbs:
 
The one I've ordered came from a seller called 'Pixlamb' and it in the UK (so they say, I'll believe it when I see it) and should be here Monday...well, it wants to be for the postage I paid, and I paid for next day!

Pixlamb are in the UK, they have quite a few different Ebay accounts selling the same stuff. The reason I know is I bought a 77mm Nikon lens cap from them and it was counterfeit. So I bought one from another seller and it had the same return address and surprise, surprise, it was counterfeit too :lol:
 
lol, well at least I know my grip is a knock-off no-brander!
 
Nah, I've got 2 non-OEM batteries coming from elsewhere :lol:

On a side note, I thought I'd pop in Jessops yesterday. Haven't been in for a while, and if the rumours are true I might not have long to shop there! I enquired about a Hahnel grip for the D40...(WEX are about 60-70) They wanted over £80 and said delivery would be a few weeks as it a very special order item...

Me: "No thanks, it's cheaper in WEX and I can have it by Monday...good bye"

Still doesn't beat the girl in Weymouth Jessops who, when I asked if they stocked any of the Cokin P series filters, she asked 'what, is that like a lens cloth or something?'
 
i have had no problems with my grip i bought for my D80 and have been looking myself at the D40 ones as i bought one recently for the gf

also, i bought a SB800 Flashlight off of eBay also for £150 buy it now from a power seller about 7 months ago, same with that, not a single problem at all!!!
 
I bought one from Link-Delight that had a timer function on it which didnt work so I sent it back, just waiting for my replacement to come through in the post now.
 
I got my Phottix grip from Hong Kong Supplies (etefore) Came with 2 batteries all for under £50 delivered.
Cant fault either the grip or the supplier
 
Got my Phottix grip from etefore too, no problems with either.
 
I got a grip for my D50 off ebay, unfortunately the shutter release broke after about a month. I still use it though.
 
I recieved my ebay battery grip today (from seller pixlamb) and have to say I'm not massively impressed. It was only £40, but for what it is I think that may have been a bit steep. It feels fairly brittle, it's not the best fit, and the shutter fires from IR. Whilst not a massive problem, it does mean you have to switch my D40 into remote shooting mode, making hte shutter release on the camera useless, annoying when shooting landscape instead of prortait. All in though I guess it's not too bad. It works, the batteries fit snugly and there's a little compartment for the battery cover.
 
My wife has orderd me the Phottix grip and 2 batteries for £50 for my 50D which wasnt too bad. I have had a YXTM on my 400D, never had a problem before i dropped it and broke it!

I wont get it till my Bday at the end of the month but the camera is at Sigma anyway so not a biggie.
 
I have one on my D50 but never used the shutter button as it was painfully slow and didnt auto focus but it made the battery life better and easier to handle.
But thats what I bought it for anyway.
 
easier on your hands/wrists if you're shooting portrait for any length of time, especially with a heavy lens
 
the secondary buttons are a god send, i shoot alot in portrait position, balancing the weight of a heavier lens as well, ergonomics are improved. I really missing a grip after i moved to a 50D from the 400D that i had gripped. Even though the body is bigger and heavier its not that well balanced with a lens such as a 70-200 2.8
 
I have to say I think I was a little unfair about my grip at first. Had a play today and it's no hassle shooting with the grip button in landscape, and it's easily won over by the extra capacity!
 
I want to get a grip for my 450D and the Canon versions are way too expensive! I've looked at either the Greenlife grip for about £35 from Hong Kong which comes with IR remote, or the Phottix grip which is £50 but comes with 2 free batteries. Does anyone have the Greenlife grip, as I cant seem to find any photos of what buttons it has apart from shutter release. Any opinions on which grip is better?
