Ebay Ring Lights

I've been thinking about getting one of these but for macro
hopefully someone has tried them

I have one, the light is very bright even on the one setting ( there is three).
tried it taking pictures of my partner, seems to wash out most colours.
don't know yet what it is like for macro.

Ben.

Wayyy to small for portraiture. There are some really good converters that transform a standard flashgun into a ringflash made by RayFlash and Orbis (I have an Orbis - it's great for on axis fill). Likewise there are ebay knock offs of these - but I've only heard bad things about them (eating lots of light - dodgy colour casts).

Not ideal, but as it was mentioned, about converters for normal flash... If you want an idea of how they work, take a look at

I made one of these and use it for macro. It works well for me, but you do not to put the flash on full power. I don't know if it would be of any use for portraiture, I've never tried.

make a diy one.
i used it for a self portrait with good effect.
Im planning on making a much better one soon.

do a search on youtube, loads of vids on there on how to make one :)

but its basically flowerpots, a glue gun, foil, and some cardboard :)

Alternatively, it just makes your 'real' ring flash £36.95 more expensive

If you're after a ring light for macro - fill your boots.

If you're after a ring flash for portraits, then this is just a noob tax. The light source is just too small and too underpowered to be useful. You'd be better off trying a DIY job to see if you like that kind of light setup.
