Ebay

All eBay sellers are automatically opted to join in the programme. Of course, if you choose not to participate, you can opt out at any time. However, any picture selected during the period whilst you are opted in may still to be used in the catalogue. If you choose not to participate, you can opt out of this programme from 7 February 2010. You will need to opt out by 28 March 2010 to ensure none of your photos are considered for this programme
.

This is total *******s You can't possibly be automatically opted in by doing nothing :cuckoo: I look forward to seeing how this works out ...

So, they can use your images but does the option still stand for you to report to eBay any other eBayers listing their stuff using your image and/or text from one of your own listings??? Hypocricy springs to mind!

thieves

if they use any of my photos i'm sending them an invoice. theyve never done anything for me and i'm not helping them
+1

...and don't forget to add comission for the invoice and more comission for the single option payment method you chose for them to send the funds to

If you scroll down the page from the above link! Take a look at how Ebay are selling the idea of having your image used ... It really would be an honour to have one of my pics in the Ebay library ..... :cuckoo:

Stock photos don't show the true picture of what you getting, I hate it when it says, item may be not be same as picture.

But imagine the credit you'll get! Seriously, first thing I do when I see a product image is look at who took the photo :cuckoo:

But you aren't doing nothing are you? You signed up, read the T&Cs and agreed to them. That is you opting in.

This wasn't in the terms and conditions when I signed up!

couldn't care less, if they want my crappy photos for ebay they can have them. Tell me how this is going to affect my life?

There is of course some indication that the images will be used on other websites beyond ebay (which no doubt ebay will prefit from thier use?)

It always makes me nervous if the image used is a stock one.

If someone has an item for sale and can't be bothered to photograph it to show some evdience of ownership then how do they manage to actually list it

Addtionally I bet some of the images aren't even the property of the person who used it in the orginal post (taken from product website etc..) so ebay will be digging a big hole if someone else sees one of thier pictures being used without permission.

I think the fault will not be ebays in that event. When you upload an image you claim to own the copyright, so if you didn't then the onus would be on you.

because you pay them for a service, but when THEY want something they just take it.
its like taking your car to a car wash, paying them a tenner and they take the change out of your ash tray too.

The announcement has changed, so the above links don't show the original

Automatically opted in? BS!
If they do this, now every laisy seller is gonna use stock instead of pics of the real item.
:bang: Morons...

I never uploaded photos, I give a url. Will they be used as well?

There is nothing in the way of benefits from ebay as a seller... Now this.

no it's not. the change out of my ash tray I use to buy chocolate, what exactly do i lose when they use a crap pic i've uploaded, it really doesn't affect my life in any way.

I never upload any images to eBay. I use GarageSale on the Mac which uploads the photos to a separate server. That way I can have an unlimited number of very large images in any listing I make. :)

It still says how to opt out if you want to.

Hardly the point really  My point is that users should 'opt in' to say that they are prepared to allow their images to be used by Ebay! How can anyone agree to something through silence? especially noting that this info hasn't been sent out individually to its users :shake:

people are making out like this is the first time anyone has ever done a "you have to opt out" thing. This has happened many times before. there is a phone service that unless you opt out people can ask for your mobile phone number and get it text to them.

how about ex-directory, you have to set that up yourself otherwise you are automatically put into the phone book.

This is quite common. I'm not saying therefore it is ok, but just find it strange so many people are surprised by it.

They may not charge for providing library images initially but further down the line they will. Now will you be happy that someone is making money from your images?

well like you said they aren't now so it doesn't affect me.

You don't know that they will, that's just speculation. If they did charge then it's not like it affects me, I wasn't going to make any money from those images so again.... why should I care?

If it doesn't affect my life in any way, why should I be bothered?

Well I've opted out - if I sell something (which is rarer these days due to their high fees) I like to have great photos of the item - which I know make my ad stand out from some of the others, and generally I get a higher price than others do for the same thing (I've watched closely a few times). No way someone else is going to get my images as stock!!

ok, fair enough, but its you that should decide whether you want your work stolen, its not up to the thief.

I could come to your house, take your TV and then when the police catch me I can say 'well he didnt opt out of having his TV stolen, so I took it'

Thats hardy the same thing. You are choosing analogy's where I lose out.

In this example with ebay it really doesn't affect my life in any way.

it's funny how much people hate ebay. I have had my issues with them and hates too but no matter what money they make from us and charges they implement, it's still our choice whether we use them or not and if they weren't there we'd make no money at all.

I think there was once a time when we LOVED ebay  most of us anyway. Then they got greedy and treated the sellers like crap, price increase after increase and then al.............oh i hate them now and cant even be bothered with it

it's the same with anything though, if you don't like what they do then stop using them. There's too many people who bitch about them but carry on using them.

If I detested BT I'd stop using BT. I wouldn't stick with them and just complain. Ebay are a business after all and their sole purpose is to make money, as much money as they can. If they keep upping fees and people keep paying them, well they're gonna keep upping their fees aren't they. Until they start losing money they aren't going to do a lot.

I always host my own images with eBay, then once they have served their purpose I remove them.

I remember someone stole my whole advert once. Lots of pictures, so I created some new images, with I guess not so many nice words in them and his advert changed accordingly.

yes, because there are a lot of other phone companies out there.

ebay have a monopoly and they know it.. and thats why they know they can get away with screwing everyone.

I'm really surprised another company hasnt come along and taken ebays business. There is a big hole there waiting to be filled and a lot of customers waiting to jump ship. It happened with yahoo - google, and myspace - facebook, so hopefully it will happen with ebay.
