Hi all, just a quick question.

I have the trail for LR3 but can afford the full program, is there anything similar that's freeware? I have Gimp which is more a Photoshop clone so is the a LR clone?
 
Do you have children or are you in education because you can pick it up for about £50 for the education edition.
 
Another option you might consider is Corel AfterShot Pro. I use it to process all my raw images, and the only thing I need any other program for is pixel-level editing, for which I use Gimp.
 
Take a look at ACDSee Pro - they have a free trial as do most, and it seems overlooked by so many on TP. I find it so easy to use compared to most software..
 
Photoshop Elements 10? Currently going for around £50 or less. And much less if you get one of the earlier versions from Amazon. It's not as simple as Lightroom, but is a far more comprehensive editing tool - if you're willing to put in the work to learn how. ;)
 
Thanks for the ideas guys will have to check them out! Don't have kids so thats a no go...yet haha. Skint after getting a new lens so the wife's no happy about that!

if you're on a mac, Aperture can be had for £50, which IMO is the best buy going for photo editing/cataloging.

I think, OP, that you're after a raw editting program?

Raw Therapee is very good, and is totally free. But it won't catalogue photo's like Lightroom will.
 
Yea used to use Picasa but didn't like the way it imported everything before you could work on a photo. Just quickly tried Raw Therapee it seems pretty dam good for nothing, will have a proper play once I get my PC back up and running at home :) Thanks.

I think it does do something like LR, when you import a photo it 'saves' the edited one in the program so its there when you come back to it, not after exporting. Wonder where it saves the 'temp modified' version.

So this along with Gimp maybe the perfect match for me just now.
