EF 100 Macro coupled with Canon 450D

Yes.

Most definitely.

I wouldn't mind the MP-E 65mm but it's a little too expensive. I've seen some good photos taken with the 100mm, and I wouldn't mind owning a dedicated lens for taking macro shots.

I'm thinking about buying the lens from DigitalRev. Are they a good company to buy from? I've had a problem with my wide angle and I bought it from Hong Kong (not DREV), and I don't want to experience the same problems again.

DR are fine, they trade on here and you'll get a best price if you ask them, no import duty either. Get the MPE-65. Simply the best macro lens there is and well worth the dosh.

MP-E is rather specialist though and it does have it's limitations. Like most lens decisions it depends what you want to shoot and there is a lot of variety beneath the blanket term "macro.".

But yes, MP-E is a stonking lens :)

I used to have the 60mm EF-S and loved it. Was my favourite for portraits and intro to Macro - it did a bit of everything for me. I had to sell it when I went Full frame, but would highly recommend. Since then I have tried a 100mm EF but it didn't wow me, ive since bought a sigma 105mm and that's probably my favourite lens at the moment. Quite long for some portraits especially indoors but very sharp and again I use it for a bit of everything - dabbling with Macro, photos of the kids etc
